If you’re like most people, you want to know when people are talking about your company or things that are relevant to you. But with all of the channels of communication and only 24 hours in a day, it’s difficult to keep track of who says what. That’s where Mention comes in.
Mention is an internet and social media monitoring tool. It works in real-time to monitor your online presence for custom alerts that you set up. Anytime a user mentions your business on social media, Mention sends you an alert.
If you’re thinking that this reminds you a bit of Google Alerts, you’re on the right track. Mention is a Google Alerts alternative. Similar to Google Alerts, which send you emails when your alert is mentioned on a website, Mention will inform you when someone is creating a buzz about your small business on social media. The difference between Google Alerts and Mention is that Mention will take monitoring a step further than Google Alerts. Whereas Google Alerts only notifies you when someone has posted an article or blog post online, Mention will monitor social media for mentions of your business or brand.
It is easy to get started with Mention. The Basic plan is free, which is great for a small business that wants to try out a service before paying because of a tight marketing budget, or for a company that doesn’t get a ton of activity on social media.
The Basic plan sends you up to 250 mentions for your alert per month. If this isn’t enough mentions or you want to create more than one alert, Mention offers upgraded plans.
Depending on your settings, Mention will send you an email with your daily mentions so that you are alerted everyday. With this in place, you can take your time reviewing all of your mentions at once, instead of checking them piecemeal throughout the day.
Like Google Alerts, Mention is a great marketing tool if used in the right way. While you can’t set up as many alerts for free, Mention picks up what other notifications don’t.
Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram notify you when another user tags your name or handle, but it ends there. What if someone tweets or mentions your business on Instagram without tagging you? Mention picks up on this and will notify you when someone mentions the content of your alert without tagging your business.
With Mention, anytime a user mentions your business without tagging your handle, you will know about it. This is beneficial as a marketing tool because it enables you to keep an eye out for what others are saying about your business. Users won’t always tag a business, especially if they’re asking a question about your service or voicing a complaint. Mention picks up on this sends links to social media posts where your brand is mentioned.
If you’ve ever run an Instagram giveaway with a hashtag or used a custom hashtag for your business, you’ve probably spent considerable time monitoring your hashtag on social media. Mention streamlines that process for you.
Simply add an alert for the hashtag by upgrading from the Basic version of Mention or change the content of your alert to your custom hashtag. Mention tracks the hashtag for you so you don’t have to do the grunt work of checking individual social media sites for it!
Better than Google Alerts, Mention will collect the information in their convenient portal so that you can interact directly with users or find the source information on social media and interact that way. This feature is a great way increase social media engagement with customers or potential customers!
