Data Scientist

At ThriveHive, we are looking for a talented Data Scientist to join our growing team. The Data Scientist will develop and improve on algorithms to understand and provide guidance to a diverse small business population. The ideal candidate is passionate about the potential for data to drive success for internal teams and for small businesses across the United States.

Responsibilities include:

  • Exploring the variety of datasets available to ThriveHive (e.g. multiple CRM systems, millions of social media posts across outlets, marketing results data) inside and outside of our data warehouse

  • Assessing ways to leverage this data in new models and existing algorithms

  • Testing and tracking the use of models and communicating results to business stakeholders

All of these tasks will be undertaken working closely with the Data Science and Engineering teams.  There is significant growth potential in this job and future responsibilities could expand significantly.

The team you’ll be joining is a small, self-organized group focused on solving challenging data science problems. The current team is composed of a full time data scientist, a full time data engineer, and a part-time data scientist. Our Innovation Center

This position is based out of our innovation center located at 10 Milk street right in the heart of downtown Boston. Collaboration and creativity is always encouraged; our walls are literally covered in IdeaPaint, which lets us draw on the surface and share ideas anytime. We have free snacks, coffee and other beverages.  Team members have excellent work-life balance and are excited at the prospect of tackling new problems.

Skills & requirements

About You:

  • You have a MS, preferably in a technical field (e.g. statistics, computer science) and 2-3 years working on projects related to machine learning and statistics.

  • You are experienced with SQL and python (primarily), but also would be able/willing to work in R as the task requires

  • Experience with the SciPy stack (e.g. NumPy, pandas) and scikit-learn

  • You are detail-oriented and have experience doing the required detective work to understand data drawn from a variety of sources

  • You understand the basics of regression, sample selection and hypothesis testing

  • You are excited to work with new datasets from a variety of channels and sources

  • You have experience coding and building data processing pipelines (e.g. scripts to pull and organize data)

  • You are willing and able to share your ideas and opinions with your team members and leadership, as we highly value collaboration and discussion

  • You are a self-starter and able to track down the resources to get the job done

Other skills:

  • Visualization experience/skills (preferably in Python/R)

  • Good verbal communications skills

  • Domain expertise a plus
