We’ve written about how you can save time and money by using customer photos in your own marketing efforts on social media. In fact, user or consumer-generated content is one of the best ways to connect with your existing customers on sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. But when it comes to actually sharing photos posted by your customers, how do you do it?
If you’re on Facebook, it’s easy to share customer photos by clicking the “share” button and on Twitter you can easily retweet content. But that option doesn’t exist on Instagram. There are two ways to repost photos on Instagram: you can repost photos using an app like Repost App OR you can take a screenshot of the photo and posting it on your own feed. This post will guide you through how to take a screenshot on your iPhone or Android and post it on Instagram.
Reposting from a customer’s profile can be as simple as a screenshot, crop, and post.
If you have an iOS device, once you’ve found the post you’d like to re-share, simply press the Power button and Home button at the same time. Doing this will take a screenshot of whatever is on your display.
The screenshot will be saved to your phone’s Camera Roll for you to use. A screenshot will include everything that’s showing on your phone screen, including the time, battery level, and your service provider. Don’t worry, this will later be cropped out of the photo.
Depending on the version of Android you have, you will be using different buttons, but the idea is the same as with iOS.
With newer devices, hold the Power/Lock button and the Volume Down button simultaneously for about 2 seconds. If you have an earlier version, try the Home button in place of the Volume. Once you release, you’ll see your phone take the screenshot. The screenshot will be saved to your phone’s Photo Library for you to use.
Once you’ve taken a screenshot, simply open the Instagram app to post the photo. In order to give your customer proper credit for their photo, you’ll want to include their username in your post. You can do this by either including the part of the photo that shows the customer’s username or by tagging them on Instagram to give them credit for the photo.
To include the person’s username, position the photo so that the username is clearly visible and not cropped out of your post. Your photo will look something like this, with the photo and the username showing in the image field. Do your best to crop out any borders from the original post. You don’t want it to look like a screenshot, even if it is!
There’s also the option of using the photo and cropping out the username of the original post. To do this, position the photo within the image field so that only the photo is visible like the photo below.
After you have your picture is positioned, you can write your caption. Make sure to include a mention of the original user, tagging the Instagram user in your caption and to thank them for their photo. This is a great way to show your followers that you value the content of your customers. It’s also a great way to make your current customers feel valued as supporters of your business.
