In a series of upcoming seminars, Propel Marketing is hosting digital marketing specialist George Leith to talk about reputation monitoring, digital media, and so much more.

We sat down with George to talk all things digital, including why social media is so crucial for businesses, how to tackle your online reputation, and what he loves about digital marketing.

Thanks for taking the time out to answer a few questions about digital marketing ahead of our upcoming seminar!

First, tell us a little about yourself. What’s your background in digital marketing – how did you get where you are today?

Quite the journey to end up as VP of Sales for a technology company, but I started in the radio business almost 30 years ago in my hometown and moved through publishing, consulting, and business group ownership. I am enjoying taking my experience in business marketing & management, coupling that with my love for public speaking, and creating presentations that help businesspeople throughout North America.

You’ve done a series of seminars with us about Social Media Marketing, and this next seminar is about Reputation Monitoring. For those who are new to both, what’s your first piece of advice?

A business’ virtual doorway is MORE important than their actual doorway, and business people need to make sure they have a sterling virtual doorway. Correct listing data across the wide array of sources and positive reputation mean more business. I have developed a presentation that speaks to the importance of this virtual doorway.

What would you say is the most important thing to remember on social media?

Customers LIVE on social; businesses should have a presence and know if their content is working to reach that potential audience. Also, they need to understand that customer service is now on social channels as well, and those customers need to be served.

What are the most common mistakes you see businesses making when it comes to their online reputation on social media?

The most common mistake is doing nothing!! We will go over some things at the seminar that a business can do right away to help their online reputation and social media presence.

Do have any great success stories of how businesses have truly leveraged social media in their favor?

We have thousands of businesses that are now “found” when before you couldn’t find them. I will show at our seminar the next big thing in social: lead generation.

What do you see for the future of social media marketing and reputation, or digital marketing in general?

This really is just in its infancy, the need and demand for businesses to be found and trusted has never been greater and is growing daily! Any business with a physical address needs to be taking care of their virtual doorway.

Any final words of wisdom?

I’m looking forward to interpreting this complex world into some real world examples and giving businesses a LIST of things they can do immediately to fix their online reputation and social media presence.

Great insight!
