my Social Media Manager said to me:
“Make your posts engaging”
It’s that time of year where holiday party invitations are piling up, you are preparing your ensemble, and thinking up key conversation topics to keep evening conversations flowing. You want to be sure you are the life of the party with brainy topics and witty fun facts. Truly the social butterfly, you keep those around you constantly engaged and wanting to know more about you, your personal opinions, and your views on your community.
The best way to engage your social following is by posting educational, informative, or even witty posts. These type of posts are a surefire way to increase your reach, Likes, shares, and comments. This will allow you to build relationships with your current and future customers on a new level.
Pictures, trivia, and polls are great content for posting as long as they are relevant to your audience, area you live in, and are topical. Make sure you are getting the conversation started about these posts with something you, or someone in your office may have found interesting or exciting. Asking your followers to vote on images or subjects that they can relate to firsthand is another surefire way to boost engagement. Who doesn’t like a little friendly competition and debate over something like ice cream flavors?
Did you know: by adding an emoticon your Likes will increase by 57%, comments by 33% and shares 33% over posts without them? These little icons show off you or your brand’s personality and helps your followers relate to you more.
When posting links for the news in your industry or in the community, remember to note what you found most interesting about the article. Adding your own insight leverages you as an expert and thought leader in your industry. Your customers and social following will see this as useful information for them to pay attention to and will entice them to come back asking you for advice or additional information in the future.
Engagement is key. With a little creativity and a sense of your brand’s personality you will be increasing your engagement and followers in no time.
PRO TIP: Worried that sales may dip if you don’t mention your product offerings? Stick to the 80/20 rule: 80% engaging content, 20% promotional content. It may not seem like much, but it’s just enough!
